The agreement announced yesterday between the US (Donald Trump) and the EU (Ursula von der Leyen) is a major blow to European heavy industry. The European Commission has agreed to impose a 50% sectoral tariff on a wide range of steel and aluminium products. It is in these segments that Europe has long maintained high standards and quality.

Despite extremely expensive energy, complex legislation and excessive bureaucracy, another obstacle is coming. A market where European companies have so far managed to remain competitive has been sacrificed. The result is another nail in the coffin of European industry.
