LPG vehicles only began to gain widespread popularity in the Czech Republic in the 1970s, while CNG arrived even later. Vítkovice vehicles powered by coal gas can therefore undoubtedly be described as true pioneers of alternative mobility. In addition to manufacturing tanks and installing them in vehicles, it was of course also necessary to build filling stations. Steel high pressure cylinders are manufactured in several ways: they can be cold-drawn from metal sheet, extrusion from hot steel billets (wide steel bars), or made from tubes. In the past, tube technology was the only method used. Forming the bottom and neck was the key to mastering the entire technology. The animated image below shows how laborious and complex this operation used to be. Below is a video of one of the ways in which the neck of a cylinder can be formed today.

This year, we celebrated not only 120 years of bottle production, but also 45 million cylinders manufactured at our three production plants in Ostrava (CZ), Sosnowiec (PL), and Apolda (D). This is an incredible number when we consider that, for example, production capacity in 1944 was around 7,500 bottles per month. And that was really huge progress. Vítkovice Cylinders can supply high pressure cylinders to India for another 5 years. Vitkovice Cylinders has once again verified its PESO certification, which allows us to supply our products to the Indian market. We passed a demanding audit at the end of August, and in September the Indian government confirmed the extension of our certification until September 30, 2025.
